Nice day at Palomar with Henry Baker, Doug Poirier, Giles Fabris, Chris Cote and Mark .
The windgram didn't look that great (see below), but the flying was still fun which kind of shows what a versatile site Palomar is. There was plenty of ridge lift up the main ridgeline to a bit over 5000ft, which was much better than perhaps the windgram indicated. The wind at 13-20km/hr was breaking up what thermals there were so lots of concentration required and excellent practice in mixed conditions for a very satisfying 90 minute flight.
We might have been able to drift back to the towers, but its would have been a long glide out with a headwind so no one decided not to push it...
Great flights had by everyone and a surprising buoyant 6:1 glide out all the way into the valley despite the 15km/h headwind.
Chris and Doug even top landed so we didn't have to do any trips up the hill to retrieve vehicles.
Great to have such good flying buddies!
A delightfully silly photo of me landing at the LZ feet away from Henry Baker
