Bit of a wild ride at Marshall today...

Flying at Marshall today in windy conditions.. Bit of a wild ride at times. Topped out at 1999m according to my FlyMaster.

The V on the tracklog below happened while freezing my fingers off up at 1900m as I had neglected to pack my warm gloves and only had light fleece ones.  167m down, then 203 m straight back up again....while flying in pretty much a straight line.

Needless to say a fair bit of caution was required as speed over ground dropped a couple of times to 5km/h so the gusts were probably 30 km/h.

I did manage to push out to the hills by the freeway following someone on an R11, but turned back when I hit sink just before the top of the hill.

Back near the LZ you could fly all along the hills in the laminar breeze without losing any height.

Could have flown longer but the wind seemed to be picking up and the air was starting to feel a little dubious so went in to land nice and safe.

Down at the Marshall LZ a couple of pilots ground handling got dragged when gusts came through.

One hangie broke an upright after a last minute gust left her unexpectedly 20ft above the ground in her final flare. As a result she put her glider down quite hard on one side of the control frame. Pilot was fine but probably a little shaken.
